MJD

I was not aware until now that i just read online that a) there are TWO years left on his 5 year deal, and b) that his current 5 year deal was front loaded.

The second part especially doesn't sit that well with me. I'm all for professional athletes making their money when they can cause their window to earn is very small, but knowing now that MJD has already gotten the majority of his contract paid to him has certainly changed my tune a little on this one.

I knew about the 2 years. He held out a few years back to get the current deal. He's making himself look like a huge baby. Of course, he'll be 30 soon, so you can't blame him for wanting to maximize his contract while he can.

It would be cool if the NFL passed a rule that if you sign a contract then you have to honor that contract until done. If you have a 5 year deal then only after year 4 can you start to negotiate and the new dael can't start until after the 5th year. It won't happen but would be cool to see.

If owners weren't allowed to cut players in the middle of contracts than your might have a chance. Perhaps when the current CBA expires in 9 years the two sides can negotiate some sort of buyout % of remaining time and money left on a players contract if they get cut. Then it would be easier to enforce a suggestion like yours into action. (Don't mean to sound like Drew Rosenhaus btw...lol)

Wonder which owners would prefer if they had the choice? Current system where there star players will hold out on them, or one where it would cost them o cut a player in return for full service of a contract.

I heard some buzz this afternoon on local Florida sports radio that there is rumored to be a deal in the making where MJD would be heading to Washington. If that turns out to be true, people that drafted MJD and Jennings as a backup would be friggin' golden! I wish I was one of those people but am not - I steered clear of that situation altogether because I was thinking MJD was going to hold out but eventually would return to the Jags maybe week 2-4 sometime. I will be kicking myself if this turns out to be true because I could've potentially had 2 starting RB's and one of them in Shanny's O!!! :x :x :x

Agree. Absolutely HUGE for those who drafted MJD and secured Jennings as the handcuff.
